Location
Nowhere else in Costa Rica, or the world for that matter, will you
find such an abundance of spectacular wildlife. National Geographic
describes the area of Matapalo to be the most biologically diverse place
on the planet.
Get ready to see troops of four different types of monkeys frolicking
through the trees with brand new babies clinging to their mothers backs.
You will also find the resident sloth, while up above the scarlet macaws
have turned the sky in to a flying rainbow of colors. With the toucan
hopping from branch to branch and the giant blue morpho butterflies
fluttering by, the rainforest is truly an amazing place!
Matapalo is a small community comprised of vast privately owned parcels
of rainforest and ecological reserves. The small group of eco-lodges
and homes are solar powered and get their water from natural springs.
And do not forget about the beach. Matapalo is set against the illustrious
Gulfo Dulce (Sweet Gulf) where the water temperature rarely drops below
80 degrees. The beaches are picturesque and great for swimming. The
Gulfo Dulce is a safe haven for dolphins, sea-turtles, whales, and sailfish.
Matapalo is a half hours drive from the town of Puerto Jimenez where
you will find everything you need from gift shops, internet cafes, a
bank and a hospital.
