Program Description

The Camp Costa program itinerary is designed to give you the most well rounded experience possible. Although everything in our program is optional, we encourage complete participation in all of our exciting adventures and activities. Because of our high camper to counselor ratio, we have a much greater flexibility to consider individual needs throughout the course of the program than is typically found in a camp setting. In addition to the scheduled activities and adventures, we also offer informal sunrise swims, beach yoga and Tai-Chi classes, Spanish fundamentals instruction, guided scientific experiments, as well as guitar and drumming lessons as interest demands. Evening at Camp Costa is a rich and wonderful time- our four-course meals will delight you, and the night is filled with music, arts and crafts, board games, stargazing, and thought-provoking conversations by candlelight. The soothing sounds of the rainforest and ocean are sure to put you fast asleep.

    Surfing Lessons

Take the first steps in learning to surf under the tutelage of professional surfer Mike Hennesy and his wife Katie. Mike and Katie have been living in Matapalo for eight years now. Hey, if they were able teach their daughter Brissa how to surf at the age of three, they can have you surfing in no time. With a large collection of soft-top surfboards and one of the most beginner friendly beaches around, you will be able to enjoy the awesome thrill of surfing Costa Rican style. Surfing lessons are offered on multiple days of the itinerary for everyone who gets hooked!

    Swimming With Dolphins

The Gulfo Dulce (Sweet Gulf) is home to the playful and loving dolphins! Once our experienced captain has located a pod, we will step into their world to hear their calls, see their smiles, and witness their amazing acrobatic displays.

Tree Climbing and Waterfall Rappelling Excursion

This adventure takes us deep into the rainforest to experience it from a whole new perspective... from above! Our veteran biologist, Andy Kruder and his wife Terri have been living In Matapalo for over ten years. Their crocodile hunter approach to giving tours is both exciting and informative. Using only the safest equipment, they will have you climbing to the top of a giant Matapalo tree and rappelling down the King Lui Waterfall. These adventures offer incredible insights into the workings of this amazing eco-system.

    Horseback Riding Excursion

What better way to explore the rainforest than on horseback? By riding on horseback we are able to explore much deeper into the jungle. Our horses are well trained and cared for and with their experienced eyes, our native Tico (Costa Rican) guides are able to spot the most camouflaged species of the rainforest.

    Kayaking Excursion

Kayaking through the mangroves and out into the Gulf at sunset is a wonderful opportunity to see an abundance of exotic birds, fish, and of course... more dolphins!

    Visit a Wildlife Rehabilitation Center

Have you ever wanted to hold a Scarlet Macaw, the most beautiful bird of the rainforest, or have a monkey swinging from your arms? Well this is your chance! We will visit a wildlife rehabilitation center where you will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with baby monkeys, exotic birds and everything in between!

    The Zip Line Adventure

This awesome adventure takes you flying through the jungle canopy of the primary, old growth rainforest. This thrilling and unforgettable experience will definitely give you something to write home about!
